Buchanan Children’s Charities Supports Boys & Girls Club Serving Children of Essential Workers
Buchanan Street Partners is proud to share that Buchanan Children’s Charities provided $5,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley. This organization was selected as they were the only Boys & Girls Club in Orange County to keep their doors open from the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic with an emphasis on serving preschool and K-8 children of healthcare workers, first responders, and other essential service providers.
One preschool parent said:
My husband and I are both ER nurses, and we’ve got a one year old and a four year old, who both attend the Boys & Girls Club’s Robert Mayer Preschool. I will never forget working in the ER, watching the closures of the schools in surrounding counties, just waiting for the call from the Boys & Girls Club that they were closing their doors due to COVID-19. To my surprise, it never happened.
I personally called every day, worrying about what my husband and I would do with our children if everyone were home not working, while we remained on the front lines working overtime. Every time I called, I was consistently reassured in a sweet, loving, and supporting way, that the Boys & Girls Club would remain open. I don’t know what my family would do without the Boys & Girls Club.
Buchanan’s $5,000 gift sponsored one day of the reduced operations. During this time, the clubs are serving 300 children per day, providing 1,000 meals weekly, and teaching 35 extracurricular activities via Zoom per week.
Robert Brunswick, Buchanan Street Chairman, thanked his employees for their financial commitments and continued advocacy of our good works at Buchanan Children’s Charities, sharing “after much diligence in reviewing varied options, we were taken by the reach of The Boys and Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley as several of its 7 total clubs in greater Orange County have stayed open throughout the COVID crisis with a particular emphasis in serving children of healthcare workers, first responders and other essential service providers. Our gift will have a meaningful impact on many families.”
